Tableau is a data visualization and analytics software that is designed to help marketers sort and organize the data that they collect daily.

Features/Functionality

The solution leverages technology developed at Stanford University, which is designed to enable users to drag-and-drop data and have it formatted into comprehensible charts and graphs. The formatting is intended to help users identify key outliers and problem points in their data—in ways that may not be obvious in a generic spreadsheet.

The latest version of Tableau also provides users with a native connector to Salesforce, allowing them to create, customize and share interactive web dashboards.

Compatibility

Obtain information from more than 40 data sources, including:

  • Amazon Redshift
  • Google Analytics
  • Salesforce.com, including Force.com and Database.com; and
  • SAP Sybase IQ 15 and ASE 15.5 or later.

Pricing

$1,999 per user. Available on the Salesforce AppExchange.

Competitive Positioning

Tableau provides users with the option to combine data sources inside the platform, which keeps data correct in both data sources while making the data comparable — without the need to add new coding. The solution’s dashboard feature lets users take all of the graphs and charts, and incorporate them in a single location that is easy to digest and comprehend.

The solution also offers a “show me” feature, which gives users the ability to view their data in various formats for charts and graphs. This is helpful for users that are not sure which format will best represent the data that is in question.
